Each month we feature a stunning wedding held at the beautiful and historic Adelaide Town Hall, sharing with you all the intricate details of the couple's dream day.

For most people, their wedding day is one of the most memorable days of their lives. We have had the privilege of sharing this moment in time with many couples, and now we’d like to take the opportunity to feature one couple who shared their special day with us back in December 2018.

The wedding of Kirsty & Pavlos

Tell us your love story.

Pavlos and I met at Greek School when we were 14 years old. We very quickly became friends and by the time we were 16 we were a couple very much in love. We have grown up alongside one another, experiencing many milestones together and remaining the best of friends and very much in love through the highs and lows.

Pavlos proposed on May 25th 2018, recently after we had celebrated our 9 year anniversary. He convinced me that we were going out to dinner with some friends and told me to 'dress nicely' as we were going out for drinks afterwards. I met Pavlos at UniSA City East (his work place at the time) and we went up to his office as his boss had asked him to deliver a package on the way to dinner. I naively bought this story and carried the package all the way to the delivery location - the Mortlock Wing in the State Library. We walked up to the security guard who let us through to 'deliver the package'. I had never been in the Mortlock Wing prior to this, so I was taking in the beauty of this grand library and before I knew it I heard some music start playing. Immediately, I turned around thinking, 'who would dare play music out loud in such a place!' and when I turned back to express myself to Pavlos he was already on one knee. It all clicked. I recognised the song 'I want to grow old with you' from my favourite movie 'The Wedding Singer' and, out of no where, a photographer emerged and started taking photos.

It got even crazier when my brother emerged from a nearby bookshelf with flowers and another gift from Pavlos. I had already said 'YES' at this point and Pavlos had placed the most stunning diamond ring on my finger. I collected the beautiful roses and opened my additional gift, which were custom made earrings designed by a local artist at the Jam Factory due to my love for art pieces. It also turns out that the 'package' we were delivering was actually for me to open the night before our wedding, with the addressee's name actually an anagram for my full name! After our photo shoot and initial excitement we made our way to the River Cafe where we had dinner reservations for a 3 course meal, specially prepared for our engagement. It was one of the best nights of my life!

Why did you choose Adelaide Town Hall as your venue?

Pavlos and I absolutely love historic architecture and buildings that tell a story. Adelaide Town Hall was at the top of our list from day one, super elegant and grandiose, we couldn't think of a more fitting venue. Plus, we wanted to pick a venue that we could one day bring our future children to and share the story of our wedding day.

Tell us about your wedding day.

Our wedding day was absolutely perfect in every way. From the weather, to the vendors, to the venue - we were absolutely overwhelmed with happiness in regards to all elements of the day. We were married at 1pm at St Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church. Being of Greek background, it was a very symbolic cultural ceremony that our families were elated to finally witness. From here we took family photos at St Helen's Park in Prospect before making our way to the Botanic Gardens and Electra House with our bridal party. After our photoshoot at these venues we took some gorgeous shots in the city amongst beautiful old stone buildings before making our way to the Town Hall, where we took photos on the balcony and inside the auditorium.

Up until this point it had been such a beautiful day but nothing could have prepared us for the night that lay ahead. It was out of this world amazing! The atmosphere was electric, with 80% of guests on the dance floor at all times. It was the absolute night of our lives and we certainly enjoyed every last moment.

Where was your favourite photo backdrop at the Adelaide Town Hall?

Our favourite photo backdrop at the Adelaide Town Hall was definitely on the balcony, with the trees and other buildings in the background. Our photographer set up some breathtaking shots.
