Britten's feather-light arrangement of music by Mahler tantalisingly captures the fleeting beauty of nature. And Dvořák's pastoral and triumphant Symphony No.8 reflects on the delicate balance between nature and humanity. In between, Shostakovich's razor-sharp Cello Concerto No.1 asks what the balance should be between an individual and society, and we unveil a new commission from Jakub Jankowski, one of our most imaginative young composers.
